KZ650SR OEM tanks have become rare and hard to obtain. Some are in VERY poor shape, extensive rust, pin holes, dents, previous tank sealer treatments that have possibly failed and nearly impossible to completely clean out. Not to mention a hard-to-find OEM fuel cap with functioning key. So, I built a mold to produce my own tanks for my build projects. Members of Virago groups and forums asked me to sell them due to the above noted issues.

I will continue to make these as long as I can obtain materials. The price listed is set as material costs and fees, if these go up so will this price. If it is listed today but not tomorrow contact me.

Modifications to the OEM tank Include:

• Moving fuel valve ports forward to be more suitable for XV series motorcycles.
• Added extension to the lower rear section of the tank to allow for Quick release button to be mounted.
• Added pocket in under side "Saddle Section" of the tank for TCI found on monocoque frames.
• When making the underside of the tank moldable this added a few more oz's of fuel on top of the stock 4.4 gallons.
• Added ability to use more modern, readily available and easily obtained keyless fuel cap.

What you get!

A brand-new Fiberglass UNFINISHED/UNPAINTED fuel tank, Keyless tank cap with hardware, and Quick release button that requires the pin to be mounted by you.

• Tank is produced in a 3-part process. Its layup is with White Gel Coat, Vinyl ester resin, and chopped strand matt.
• Internal surfaces are Sanded/etched
• Tank halves are assembled, and an internal fuel tank sealer is applied for better resistance to ethanal.
• Internal mold in brass threaded inserts for mounting hardware. Brass inserts provide better thread retention within the FRP part.
• Instruction sheet

Tanks shipped will look similar to what is pictured (there is a possibility of minor differences in gel coat color and surface finish.) Fuel cap and quick release are noted in pictures.

• This Fiberglass tank was produced in a mold that uses Wax as a release agent. Properly clean using a professional grade automotive type de-waxer.
• Exterior Surface preparation “Surface scoring or Fine sanding” prior to paint work is required for paint to bond properly.
• Gelcoat surface will have mold flashing lines and tank may have other minor surface imperfections, that will require sanding prior to paint work.
• Fuel tank caps are purchased here on eBay and are included in this tank kit. The Cap has been machined in my shop for a vent as the cap was unvented.
